Agent Reach: The Open-Source Tool That Lets Your AI Agent Read Reddit, YouTube, GitHub and More

Your AI agent can browse the web, but a lot of what founders need to know lives where a normal web search cannot reach: Reddit threads, YouTube videos, GitHub issues and pages that sit behind a login. Agent Reach is an open-source tool built to close that gap, and it has passed 107,000 stars on GitHub. Here is what it does and how a founder can put it to work this week.

What Agent Reach is

The pain: Agents like Claude Code, Codex or Cursor can read ordinary web pages, but they struggle with platforms that need a login, with content locked inside videos, and with non-English platforms. So you end up pasting links and transcripts by hand.

The fix: Agent Reach installs and tests the tools behind those platforms and puts them behind one command line interface. The pattern is agent-reach . Run agent-reach channels to see what is available, or agent-reach read and it picks the right channel from the link.

agent-reach channels # list channels and what each can do
agent-reach bilibili search "AI agents" # agent-reach <channel> <action> [args]
agent-reach read https://www.v2ex.com/t/123 # picks the channel from the link

Each channel is an ordered list of tools: a preferred one first, then a fallback. When a platform changes and one tool breaks, the next one takes over, and your agent keeps using the same commands.

Repo: github.com/Panniantong/Agent-Reach (MIT license, Python 3.10+)

What it can read

  • Ready after install: web pages and web search, GitHub (repos, READMEs, issues, pull requests with comments), YouTube (video info, search, subtitles), Bilibili and V2EX.
  • Optional, switched on by asking your agent: Reddit, LinkedIn (public job search and job details work without a login), Xiaohongshu, Xueqiu, Boss and Xiaoyuzhou podcasts.
  • Experimental: Twitter/X, Facebook and Instagram. They work, but platforms fight automated access, so they can break at any time.

YouTube speech-to-text, for videos without subtitles, needs a Groq or OpenAI key.

Four ways founders can use it

1. Find customer pain points before you build

The pain: Surveys are slow, and the best customer language is already public.

The fix: Ask your agent to search Reddit for threads about the problem in your niche, read the comments, and group the complaints by theme. You get real wording for your landing page and a reality check on whether the problem is painful enough to pay for.

Try a prompt like this:

Search Reddit for threads where founders complain about hiring their first developer. Read the top comments and group the complaints into five themes, with one short paraphrased example per theme.

2. Turn hours of video into a one-page brief

The pain: Competitor demos, founder interviews and conference talks are packed with insight, and nobody has time to watch them all.

The fix: The YouTube channel pulls subtitles, or transcribes the audio, so your agent can summarise a talk, extract pricing mentions or list every feature a competitor demoed.

3. Benchmark job posts before you hire

The pain: Your first job post decides who applies, and most founders write it from a blank page.

The fix: Use the LinkedIn channel to read public job details from similar startups: how they word the role, which skills they require, and whether they list pay. Then use the GitHub channel to read the public repos and READMEs a candidate chose to share. Stick to what people have published themselves.

Read the public LinkedIn job posts for "full stack developer" at early-stage startups in Casablanca. List the most common required skills, the typical wording of the role, and whether pay is mentioned.

4. Watch competitors and open-source alternatives

The pain: You only hear about a competitor's weak spots after a customer churns.

The fix: GitHub issues and pull requests show what users of a rival or open-source project complain about, and the web channel can read pricing pages and changelogs on a schedule you set.

Getting started in about ten minutes

You do not install it by hand. The README tells you to send your agent a prompt asking it to install Agent Reach from the install.md file in the repository, and the agent does the rest. Install only from that GitHub address: a package with the same name on PyPI is not this project.

Send your agent this message (an English version of the prompt in the README):

Install Agent Reach for me: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Panniantong/Agent-Reach/main/docs/install.md

After that, talk to your agent in plain language: ask it to check Agent Reach status, add Reddit, or upgrade it. Everything it installs lives in one folder, ~/.agent-reach/, so removal is one request too.

Check Agent Reach status
Add Reddit
Upgrade Agent Reach
Uninstall Agent Reach

Safety and limits

  • Read-only. It is read-only: it searches and reads, and it never posts, comments, likes or sends messages.
  • No password handling. Agent Reach never logs in for you and never asks for your password. For sites that need a login it uses its own background browser and copies that one site's login from your Chrome the first time. Your normal browser is left unchanged.
  • Use a throwaway account. The copied login is usually your main account, and platforms can restrict accounts that behave like bots, so the repo recommends that you use a secondary account.
  • Keep keys out of chat. Add API keys in your own terminal with agent-reach configure groq-key, not inside the conversation.
  • Check platform rules. Automating access can conflict with a platform's terms, so keep volumes low and review the rules of each site you use.
  • Language. The main README is in Chinese. An English version is in the repo's docs folder.

To add a key, run this in your own terminal, not in the chat:

agent-reach configure groq-key

Bottom line

Agent Reach will not replace talking to customers, but it removes the busywork of gathering what they are already saying in public. Start with one channel, such as Reddit research for your next feature, and add more only when you need them.
